Issue 1: Wallpaper Wednesday - Mitsubishi Lancer WRC05
Hey, Myles here from Miles & Myles and I'm bring you the first issue of Wallpaper Wednesday. Hopefully this will be a regular occurrence every, well... Wednesday! I will be sharing some of our favourite automotive photos and artwork we have snapped and created, completely free. So, if you in the hunt for a new lock screen or monitor wallpaper, look no further. The first episode has a collection of different sizes for phone lockscreens, displays and tablets.
To kick things off we are starting with a personal favourite of mine, the Mitsubishi Lancer WRC05, the Japanese manufacturers' last hurrah in the World Rally Championship. The car is powered by the iconic 1996cc, turbocharged, in-line 4, 4C63 engine which has been used in Mitsubishi rally cars since the 1980s and was used in the Mitsubishi Evo road cars from I to IX. This engine gave it a unique sound in comparison to the other cars at the time and gave off almost a 5-cylinder like sound.
Some iconic names took to the wheel of the Lancer WRC05 such as Harri Rovanpera, father to Kalle, Gilles Panizzi and the loveable Gianluigi Galli to name a few. The team scored their best finish of the 2005 season in Australia where Rovanpera stood on the 2nd step. Shortly afterwards Mitsubishi pulled out from the sport and the car only returned to the world stage under the Ralliart UK (now MML Sports) banner and continued competing and developing the car right up until the end of the 2007 season. During the latter stages of the car’s life, Ralliart UK had uprated the suspension, transmission and other minor changes result in the car being over 0.5sec/km faster than the original WRC05!
Out of the 17 known chassis, according to eWRC at the time of print, only 2 are actively competing, both in Europe and 6 have been destroyed on past events. The remainder are in private hands or off the road owned by MML.
This car definitely deserves some more love and attention, so what better way to start our Wallpaper Wednesday with some negative space vector art of the WRC05 itself.
